I have some exciting news! Last spring our Transition Team helped our parish commission original artworks honoring our patron saints. Sr. Glynis McManamon, RGS, has completed Christ Emmanuel with Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. John the Baptist and St. Stephen Protomartyr, and this week we will receive the paintings, one for each of our churches, all bearing the same image. Many thanks to parishioners Nancy Haselhorst and Tony Arguello, who donated the images in honor of Peter and Virginia Haselhorst, and to David Borgmeyer, a member of our Transition Team who was key to the project. On the weekend of All Saints Day, November 1-2, we’ll place the images in our sanctuaries. We’ve consulted with the Archdiocese about where to permanently install them in each church, but we expect for the first year or two to keep them in a place of honor in our sanctuaries.
We invite you to join us at 5:15 pm on November 1 in SSP Church to learn about the artwork, pray together, and share faith. It should be a beautiful and interesting evening!
We commissioned these artworks for two reasons. First, to honor God’s goodness to us during the All Things New transition. Together with the hard moments, there has been beauty and new gifts. I am grateful for all the graces we received through the prayers of our patron saints. Second, we wanted something beautiful to symbolize that we are one parish with three churches. Wherever we pray, we are one community, united around Christ Emmanuel: God with us. May God bless you!
