Happy Friday, I hope you can enjoy an extended holiday weekend. Happy Labor Day!
Another successful weekend is in the rearview mirror, and with each passing day, we’re discovering more “chemistry” among our team and students. It’s a joy to witness these connections forming and strengthening.
Back in 1985, when I was a “baby teacher,” we were told not to smile until Thanksgiving. The idea was to focus on establishing routines, setting expectations, and building rapport with students, parents, and now, grandparents too! I used to tell my classes, “I’m not your friend—I have plenty of those—but I am your advocate.” If a student was giving their best effort and needed a mentor, a coach, or a confidant, I was proud to be their Huckleberry.
Over the past two weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with several parents. As I reflect on those conversations, I’m reminded of a simple yet essential truth: our educators need time to lay a solid foundation. Just like athletes in spring training or preseason—whether rookies or seasoned pros—teachers and students benefit from time to establish roles and routines. Thank you for your patience and trust as we build the groundwork for a successful school year.
Our hearts and prayers remain with the families affected by the recent tragedy in Minneapolis. In response, we’ve revisited and refined our safety protocols. All students have walked the neighborhood to familiarize themselves with the safest routes to our rally points. Epiphany Lutheran has once again graciously confirmed its campus as a reunification site for SSP teachers and students. We pray that we never need to use it, but we are prepared.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are building something truly special.
